Fall planting - kohlrabi

I'm sad to say goodbye to summer for good as we're entering Fall. I'm not too excited about planting fall vegetables, especially after a very successful summer season. I do plant some vegetables to keep myself busy and while waiting for next summer.

More tomatoes

The last few weeks I have been picking a lot of tomatoes, almost a basket full, every few days. I gave one giant tomato, the size of a small plate, to a piano teacher. Some pictures of my garden today.

Purple flowers

Perfect weather this morning for Southern Cal area, bright and sunny, not too hot nor too cold, perfect for growing plants. My tomato plants are about 2 feet tall with lots of blossoms but I have yet to see any big tomato yet. Here are some pictures of plants in my garden.

Columbine

I was sick today so I did not do much in the garden except to move the leeks and make room for the next tomato batch. I also pulled out 2 melon plants. I made a mistake of planning too soon this year, somehow these plants were stunned and never recovered.

Picture of a Columbine flower I found this morning.

Kohlrabi

This morning is a typical Southern California weather, nice, warm and full of sunshine. It's the right kind of temperature for warm loving plants like melon.

Melons bed

As usual, I did a tour of my garden and I found 2 nice kohlrabi plants that are ready to be picked for dinner(but not tonight). In the fall, I planted a few seeds of kohlrabi in a corner and forgot about it. Fast forward to Spring, these kohlrabi are the size of a small onion.

I moved my strawberries which were growing in a raised bed to this container and the strawberries that I have been harvesting here are so sweet. I guess I have to move the rest of my strawberries to container as well.

Butterfly

I thought I'd almost abandoned this blog. I've been too busy with planting and sowing seeds. Today there was a beautiful butterfly on top of my compost bin so here I'm back to blogging and posting a picture of a beautiful butterfly, not sure what type it is.
